Field Operations Technician

Basic Job Function: Install and maintain Base Transceiver Stations (BTS’s) for a GSM PCS wireless system.  Test and accept DS1, T-1 and microwave backhaul systems with the BTS.  Perform maintenance routines of the equipment to assure top performance of the systems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement, conduct and coordinate the smooth operation, repair, maintenance and expansion of all systems
• Operate, maintain and repair all components of the PCS and/or cellular systems in and around assigned area of responsibility.  This will include, but not be limited to, the site – hardware, software and firmware, interconnection devices and system interface facilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints concerning technical problems with the system, network, and interface and interconnects associated with the systems.
• Maintain proficiency on all facets of the site and related hardware and software, including all attached or interconnected devices.  Additionally, maintain skills, which would benefit this position.
• As required, be responsible for “on call” commitments and “after hours” maintenance work.
• Install new equipment needed for system expansion.  This will include but not be limited to radios, network facilities, Base Transceiver Systems and interconnection devices.
• Assist in the construction and “turn-up” of new cell sites, and other newly constructed or facilitated assets.
• This position will be an “on call” at all times for system outages.
• Installation of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) per manufacture’s and Intelegra, LLC standards.  This includes but is not limited to the installation of the cabinet(s), electronics, power systems and other miscellaneous items.
• Test, provision and commissioning of the BTS’s per defined method of procedures.  This includes but is not limited to radio interface, telco facilities, software and other hardware equipment.

Education, Certification and/or Training Qualifications:

• 2 year technical degree or equivalent training
• 2 years telecommunications experience in field installation, operations and maintenance
• Experience with licensed and unlicensed microwave
• Valid drivers license with a good driving record
• Previous wireless network build out experience
• Self-motivated/unsupervised work, the technician knows what to do per what stage we are at.  Also knows what tools are required for the job
• Do the job right the first time.  Zero down time goal for the customer type of attitude
• Able to interact well with telco providers
• Works well in a team environment
• Good computer skills
